Dying Matters is a national initiative where people are encouraged to talk about the often taboo subject of bereavement, death and dying. It runs from 8th to 14th May and this year, and Isabel Hospice will be tackling the tricky subjects in a fun and light-hearted way. Our ‘Before I Die, I Want To…’ roadshow will be taking place in 5 of our charity shops in Cheshunt, Ware, the Hatfield Galleria, Welwyn Garden City, and at Tesco in Hertford.
Each shop will have a ‘Before I Die, I Want To…’ banner, pre-populated with fun ideas, including “snog George Clooney”, “Wrestle a chimp” and the not so fun, but probably very true, “finish the ironing”. Members of the public are encouraged to write their own wish on a sticky note, and pop it on the banner.
Dr Pia Amsler, our Medical Director and Consultant in Palliative Care said “Please come along to one of our shops or to Tesco in Hertford and add your sticky note. It can be as fun, or as serious as you like. We appreciate that talking about difficult subjects such as bereavement and dying can be difficult but think that this will spark debate and encourage people to think about a serious subject in a light-hearted way.”
