Could you be an Isabel Hospice Trustee?

We are looking for individuals passionate about Hospice care to become an Isabel Hospice trustee.

If you have legal, HR, fundraising, digital, finance, or clinical experience (nursing or general practice),we would like to hear from you. You will be joining Isabel Hospice at a very exciting time as we move forward with new ideas for our services enabling us to care for and support more people than ever.

Meet one of our current Trustees

Name: Sophie Cowan (38)

Job: Director of a Recruitment Consultancy

Sophie (second from the right) and her running buddies,

who ran the London Marathon for the Hospice this year.

Why do you do it?

I saw an advert for the role in the local paper, and the

Hospice resonated with me as, at that time, a family

member had recently been cared for in a hospice. We

were really impressed with the care they were offered and

the fact that every patient was treated as an individual –

there were none of the “rules” that exist in hospital

around visiting times, meal times etc. Over the last 11

years, the Hospice, and all those who work and volunteer

within it, have inspired me tremendously. Patients and

families are cared for with compassion, dignity, humanity

and humour. Whilst I have served for 11 years, we are

looking for new Trustees to commit to a term of 3 years.

”I am very proud to be a Trustee.”

What do Trustees do?

Based on the skills they have, Trustees are aligned

to a different Hospice department and at least one

committee. Given my profession, I chair the Human

Resources Committee and work very closely with our

Director of HR and Voluntary Services. I also sit on the

Finance Committee (committees meet quarterly) and

attend quarterly Board meetings. Outside of this quarterly

cycle, I attend the Staff Forum and meet with Hospice

directors to offer support as required. I also try to attend

as many fundraising events as possible. All Trustees

are encouraged to keep up to date with governance

and hospice movement issues. It’s a great thing to do.

I thoroughly recommend it and am very proud to be an

Isabel Hospice Trustee.
