Assistant Area Manager

Contract: Fixed Term Contract for 9-12 months (Maternity Leave Cover) Full time 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £20,000 - £22,000 per annum depending upon experience
Location: Base location, Head Office, Welwyn Garden City with limited travel throughout eastern Hertfordshire

Isabel Hospice is looking for an individual with extensive retail experience, who is seeking a role within an office environment to undertake the Assistant Area Manager role. You should be a passionate, organised and an income focussed individual, with an analytical mind, who can multi task and is proficient with computer packages such as excel.  You should be able to demonstrate clear organisational and problem solving skills and the ability to manage change within the work place.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Management of staff rotas, sickness and annual leave to ensure shops are staffed appropriately and costs managed effectively
  • Assisting with the training of staff to ensure conformance to legal and regulatory standards such as health and safety
  • Out of hours support for shops and staff
  • Supporting the Area Manager with the day to day management of shop staff and volunteers, including staff recruitment
  • Dealing with complaints and incidents and investigations as necessary
  • Support, manage and deliver change projects as required
  • Handle day to day shop operational issues effectively
  • Manage any of our shops effectively when required

Person specification

  • Experience of retail shop management
  • Previous people management experience
  • Communicates well, both verbally and in writing
  • Good people/interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Show understanding, respect and consideration for others at all times
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Demonstrates a ‘can do’ approach to their work
  • Leads by example and demonstrates a positive attitude at all times
  • A strong team player
  • Proficient in the use of email, word and excel packages and the internet
  • Have a full UK driving license and be a car owner is essential for this role
