Isabel Hospice is the only provider of Specialist Palliative Care to adults with life limiting illnesses in East Hertfordshire. We offer our services to a population of around 370,000, either in the patient’s own home, nursing homes, our hospice day services or at our In-Patient Unit. We receive 1000-1200 referrals each year.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Medical Consultant to take the lead in providing medical care to patients at our In Patient Unit and to work in collaboration with the Medical Director in the provision of community and domiciliary palliative care and to offer advice and support to our Community Nurse Specialists and other Health Care Professionals. The successful candidate will join a medical team consisting of another consultant (Medical Director), an Associate Specialist, three Specialty Doctors and two doctors in training as well as visiting and shadowing trainees and colleagues.
You will lead on medical clinical audit and participate and encourage all areas of Clinical Governance. You will supervise the two doctors in training (GP VTS and FY2) and be actively involved in the provision of the internal and external education programme.
We are actively developing our existing clinical services at present, seeking to offer even greater integrated care with the primary and tertiary sector. This is a very exciting time to join the expanding team and contribute with your own area of specialist interest, preferably palliative support for patients with cardiology or respiratory conditions. We are implementing “SystmOne” this summer and are utilizing the OACC measures in all clinical settings and areas. Striving to strengthen professional networks in the East Herts catchment area and a willingness to provide hospital support in the nearby District General Hospital would also be required.
You should be fully GMC registered with a licence to practise, with inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine and be experienced in managing patients with malignant and non-malignant conditions in a variety of settings. You should have good leadership skills with the ability to supervise, mentor and support junior doctors, whilst managing the day to day clinical demands of the service. You will also need proven teaching ability and experience in undertaking audit.
Full UK driving licence is essential and access to your own vehicle.
Salary is in line with the NHS consultant pay scales. We offer pension and life assurance and 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising with service, or continued membership of the NHS Pension scheme and long service leave if applicable.
