One Year Fixed Term Contract - Full Time, Part Time Considered
Isabel Hospice was founded in 1982 by Mrs Isabel Last. Since then it has grown to become the only provider of specialist palliative care to adults with life limiting illnesses in East Hertfordshire. We offer holistic care to patients, their families and carers in the community, at our In Patient Unit and also at our Day Service locations according to the patient’s preferred place of care.
We are seeking a Specialty Doctor on a one year fixed term contract commencing approximately November 2016 to cover for maternity leave. This is an ideal opportunity for a Doctor who is seeking more experience following completion of their specialist training and before applying for a Consultant post. Ideally this role would be covered on a full time basis but part time would be considered.
Your main responsibilities will be to provide high quality clinical care to patients at our In Patient Unit working closely with the multi-professional team to provide medical care for patients including symptom control and psychological support, however you will also provide a medical advisory role in the care of community patients when the Community Specialty Doctor is on leave, working in partnership with the Primary Care Team and Palliative Care Community Nurse Specialist Team. You will also contribute to and provide education and teaching sessions for Trainees and may also provide outpatient services, depending on experience. You would also be required to participate in the first on call rota.
To apply you should be fully GMC registered with a licence to practise and ideally hold, or be working towards the Diploma in Palliative Medicine or European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care. You should have a minimum of two years appropriate experience post full registration in one or more of the following: palliative care, general medicine, care of the elderly, general practice, oncology or psychiatry and knowledge of and experience in managing a broad range of medical conditions. You will need to be able to demonstrate a high level of professional and personal integrity and be sensitive to the differing needs of a diverse range of patients with the ability to deliver appropriate treatment and support. Full UK driving licence is also essential and access to your own vehicle.
Salary is in accordance with the £NHS Specialty Doctor pay scales, plus payment for On call. We also provide continued membership of the NHS Pension Scheme and NHS Long Service Leave.
