Could you be a Compassionate Neighbour?

Calling out for Compassionate Neighbours

Do you like making friends and want to make a difference to someone in your community who is lonely, at risk of isolation or nearing the end of life through age or illness?

In April this year, we launched our Compassionate Neighbours scheme.

Compassionate Neighbours is a free, community-led social movement offering friendship and support by local people to local people. Since its launch at Isabel Hospice, they have now a number of trained neighbours but are looking for more people to come forward and join the movement.

Christine Novelli, our Community Development Manager said “Compassionate Neighbours pairs local people based on their shared likes, interest and experiences and can help others by visiting regularly, offering friendship and a listening ear, and helping them to do the things they like doing whilst staying connected to the community.

All neighbours are supported to develop their skills and confidence through training and monthly peer support group. We are running free training days in Welwyn Garden City on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th January and on 2nd and 9th February.

There are also training days on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th January 2019 at St Joseph’s Parish Centre, Eleanor Road, Waltham Cross, Herts EN8 7DP. The training runs from 9.30am -5pm (registration from 9.15am) and lunch is provided.
