Did you know that Isabel Hospice and Garden House Hospice Care has a dedicated Heart Failure Nurse and you can refer yourself to them for help and advice?
As part of Heart Failure Awareness month we would like to share Moira’s story of how Isabel Hospice helped her through her diagnosis.
Moira, 55, tells us how Isabel Hospice has helped her:
“Having the diagnosis of my heart condition at 55 was quite a shock, especially as I found out it was hereditary. Being referred to the Isabel Hospice Fatigue and Breathlessness course by my hospital heart failure nurse was as great and not what I expected at all.
Over the six weeks we learnt about diet, exercise, managing house work….
The others on the course did have more complex conditions than me, but we all got along well, and I have taken on board lots of what I learned. I now sit on the sofa watching TV and do my seated exercise!
It has been a big lifestyle change for me since my diagnosis. I worked as a bakery assistant for Dorringtons in Sawbridgeworth for 35 years, but when I got ill, I really couldn’t cope any more with the early starts and long days. I was really sad to give it up. I’m now keeping myself busy with my two grandchildren, and 3 step-grandchildren. They are age 15 months to 9 and they keep active.
Without the Hospice I wouldn’t be able to keep my energy levels up for Nanny duties. I wouldn’t be mindful of a good diet and it really has given me a more positive outlook on life.
The Hospice atmosphere is caring and friendly, from the moment you walk through the door. I thoroughly recommend it!”
