Keld Ensemble was founded by violinists Jonathan Acton and Kate Waterworth in 2010.

Inspiration for the ensemble’s name originates from the Swaledale hamlet of Keld which comes from the viking word ‘Kelda’ meaning ‘spring’

Since this time Keld has emerged as a diverse and forward-looking ensemble, engaging audiences across the UK with concerts in St Martin in the Fields London, Pizza Express Jazz club Soho, Hertfordshire, Woolpit Festival Suffolk, Kent, East Sussex, Newcastle, Bowes Museum County Durham and North Yorkshire.

Keld Ensemble has a richly varied repertoire and has enjoyed collaborating over the past decade with a wide range of conductors, soloists and ensembles. These have included Conductors Boris Peck and Mathew Andrews, Deutscher Chor of London, Soprano Jodie Devos, Pianists Jong-Gyung Park, Anthony Zerpa Falcon and Bela Hartmann, Violinist Mona Kodama, Flautist Janna Huneke, Harpsichordists Masumi Yamamoto and Asako Ogawa, Classical Guitarists Sean Shibe and Giulio Tampalini, Jazz Vocalist Filomena Campus, Jazz Guitarist Giorgio Serci and DJ Francesca Lombardo.

2020 will see Keld Ensemble visit Bruges to mark their 10th Anniversary, which will also coincide with Belgian National Day of cultural events.

Keld Ensemble released their first CD of British Music for Strings with works by Britten, Elgar, Rutter and Erik Chisholm in 2013 and will be releasing their second CD later on this year featuring Mendelssohn’s early piano and violin concertos with Pianist Bela Hartmann and Violinist Mona Kodama.
