The Bereavement Service
Our family support team offer a range of services which include arts and complementary therapies, spiritual care, children's services, social work, welfare advice and bereavement counselling. Please talk to your Clinical Nurse Specialist for further information.
Our Bereavement team of trained volunteers and counsellors led by our Bereavement Services Manager, offers 1-1 support for anyone whose relative or friend was cared for by Isabel Hospice.
In the first month after the loss family members are sent a card explaining our services. A month later they are sent a further letter inviting them to contact us if they wish for some support, and advising them we will be ringing them the following month to see how they are. The Service is available for contact and reassurance. We also offer a reciprocal service for those whose relatives have died in other hospice’s, but who live in our area.
We can offer this at our In-Patient Unit or visit at home if necessary. We also offer a weekly coffee morning for older bereaved relatives and a group for younger ones.
A Benefits advisor is available to help with any financial concerns.
We hold an Annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving in the Autumn for those who are bereaved, this takes place in a different part of our catchment area each year. This Service gives an opportunity to remember the life of your family member or friend who has died and honour their memory. Everyone is welcome including children and young people who may also like to take part in the separate remembrance activity which runs during the service and is geared towards them. We believe that it is important that children feel included in this special time of remembrance and can find the service helpful
