The History of Jewellery from Elizabeth 1st to Elizabeth Taylor

A Lecture by John Benjamin FGA, DGA, FSA (Jewellery Historian and BBC Television’s Antiques Roadshow Jewellery Specialist 1993-2023)

Join us in aid of Isabel Hospice for a very special event in a tipi in the beautiful grounds of The Old Rectory, Bramfield.

John Benjamin is a jewellery historian, lecturer and writer. A founder Liveryman and Court Assistant of the Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars, he will be its master, subject to election, in May 2026.

A Freeman of the Goldsmith’s Company and a Freeman of the City of London, he is the author of Starting to Collect Antique Jewellery and co-author with Paul Atterbury of Arts and Crafts to Art Deco; The Jewellery and Silver of H.G Murphy. A fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, he was a regular contributor for over 30 years to BBC Antiques Roadshow.

John was appointed The National Trust’s Honoury Jewellery Advisor in 2021 and is currently in the process of curating the Trust’s entire collections of jewellery, gems and Faberge.
