Could this be the year you do something amazing and become an Isabel Hospice volunteer?
We are in need of extra help to support our services – and are inviting anyone who wants to do something rewarding with their time in 2023 to come along to our next Volunteer Information Session at 11am on Saturday 28th January.
Volunteers support every aspect of Isabel’s work, helping to make a vital difference to families within our community. We have a wide range of opportunities across our organisation, and there are many benefits to volunteering, from learning new skills and gaining work experience, to meeting new people and keeping active.
It can even lead to other opportunities, as discovered by Adrian Wong, who turned his volunteer role within the our finance team to a full-time employed position.
Adrian assisted one day a week for two years after graduating from university, helping with tasks including accounts payable, payroll processing and creating analytical reports before a vacancy arose to join the term on a permanent basis.
“I came out of university and wanted to gain some practical accounting experience, having done an accountancy degree,” he said. “I saw an advert online for a volunteer on the Isabel Hospice website and it was near to where I live.
“As a volunteer I had the opportunity to explore different areas within finance, which helped me determine my career path. Then in April last year, a job came up, I applied and got it. I’m now the Accounts Payable Assistant and am thoroughly enjoying it. I enjoy working for a great cause as well as working in a supportive environment. We’re fortunate to have another volunteer who supports our team one day a week.”
During the Volunteer Information Session at our Living Well with Isabel community hub in Hall Grove, there will be a chance to learn more about the many and varied roles available, although we are particularly keen to recruit –
- Compassionate Neighbours to befriend the socially isolated
- Gardeners to help maintain the outdoor spaces at the In-Patient Unit and Living Well with Isabel hub in Hall Grove
- IPU receptionists to welcome patients and visitors to the Hospice
- IPU hospitality volunteers to support the clinical and catering teams
- Bereavement support volunteers to support bereaved adults and children
- Retail and shop volunteers to assist in our Donation Centre, shops and eBay
Attendees will get to hear from current staff and volunteers about the difference volunteering can make to those who rely on Isabel’s specialist care, as well as the benefits to those who give their free time to further the charity’s work.
People of all ages and abilities from all walks of life are welcome, and no previous experience is necessary as training is provided.
