Golf day putts £22,000 for Isabel Hospice - Isabel Hospice

A fantastic turnout for our Autumn golf day run by volunteer Leesa Hamilton Lee.

Leesa is not only a volunteer for Isabel Hospice, she understands what it’s like to receive our support, as her Dad was looked after by us in 2018.

“I was very impressed by the way they looked after him and the family” Leesa said and following her Dad’s death in the hospice, she knew she wanted to help.

This year marked the second golf day Leesa has organised as a volunteer in the Community & Events department and after holding it last year under Covid restrictions and in the pouring rain, Leesa was very pleased to see 22 teams enjoying 18 holes of golf in pleasant weather conditions.

“Last year the weather was horrendous, which caused several teams to drop out and Covid restrictions seriously impacted both the social and fundraising aspect of the day. We still generated nearly £18,000, but this year there was a full turnout and we achieved just over £22,000 – that’s the difference it makes having everyone in the room.”

This year’s winners were Simon Light Ltd with Last of the Summer Whine as runners up; both long-time supporters of Isabel Hospice.

Funds were raised in a variety of ways, including team entry fees, sponsorship, raffle, ice-breaker game, auction and donations.

Prizes included made to measure football boots donated by Hertford based Tottenham Hotspur player Oliver Skipp and an artwork from local renowned graffiti artist Charlie Uzzel-Edwards, better known by his alias, Pure Evil.

Leesa’s knowledge of Isabel Hospice, who provides palliative care for patients with life-limiting illnesses, has been enlightened through her work as a volunteer.

She said: “I thought Isabel Hospice was just the IPU. It was only when I started to volunteer that I found out about all the other services the charity provides. That’s why we need to raise more awareness, so people appreciate how much all this costs to run.”

Leesa’s Dad, Robert Browning was admitted to the hospice on June 30th 2018 and died in our care on July 22nd. He was 81 years old.
