Hitchin-based Crane Building Services reaches out with $2,000 donation to Isabel Hospice - Isabel Hospice

Staff from Hitchin-based Crane Building Services got to see first-hand how their support is helping make a positive difference to the lives of people living with a long-term, progressive illness when they were invited to visit our In-Patient Unit to present a cheque for $2,000.

Vice president of Operations Chris Gray and process controllers John Doyle and Paul Standing met with Charlotte Carder, our Acting Head of In-Patient Services, and members of our clinical staff and fundraising team to learn more about the work of the Hospice and the specialist care given to patients by our multidisciplinary team.

The donation came from Crane’s charitable funds, which were set up by the family of the company’s founder Richard T. Crane in 1917. The funds support former employees as well as charities and organisations that are important to Crane employees.

Isabel Hospice was selected as a recipient after being nominated by Paul in memory of his dad Peter. The Hospice cared for Peter when he became ill and later died in the In-Patient Unit in 2015. Paul said: “Because of the palliative care that Dad received, the Hospice is a place that is close to our family’s heart.”

The donation will help us ensure we can continue to be there for more people like Peter, and their loved ones, helping them to make the most of the time they have left together.

Our Trusts and Foundations executive Lisa Bailey said: “Demand for our life-changing, compassionate care has never been higher, and we are now supporting more families, like Peter’s, than ever before.

“All our services are free of charge to those who need them, but they are not without cost. This means we must raise £7 million every year to guarantee the future of our care and continue providing the care and support that every person receiving the news that they have been diagnosed with a life-limiting condition deserves.

“That would not be possible without the support of local businesses like Crane, and we are incredibly grateful to them for this generous donation.”
