Hospice funds grow thanks to Christmas tree recycling scheme - Isabel Hospice

The popularity of Isabel Hospice’s Christmas tree recycling scheme has continued to grow – helping raise £31,000 to fund its life-changing care.

Some 1,526 trees – 676 more than the previous year – were collected, chipped and recycled in exchange for a donation to the Hospice.

Community fundraiser Linda Cudmore said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to every household who trusted us to collect their Christmas tree, helping to support not only the people who benefit from our care, but also the environment.”

Fifteen companies from the area the Hospice serves volunteered their vans and fuel over five days to make all the collections.

“We are incredibly grateful to our amazing collection crews, particularly as many were struggling with staff shortages,” Linda added.

“We’d also like to give a big shout out to the 70-plus volunteers who helped promote the scheme within their communities. They braved all sorts of weather to post leaflets and place posters.

“To ensure a green outcome, four companies received and chipped the trees free of charge and are now in the process of recycling them for us.”

The money raised is enough to cover the cost of 1,107 hours of expert In-Patient nursing care, helping to relieve someone’s pain or anxiety at the end of their life, or 660 hours of the Living Well with Isabel service, providing activities and support to improve the health and wellbeing of those living with a progressive illness.

Linda said every single tree collected has helped make a positive impact on the lives of those who rely on the care and support offered by Isabel Hospice.

“It was a pleasure to work with so many businesses and members of the public and I hope they will continue to support us with our work during our 40th anniversary year throughout 2022.

“We have lots of ways to get involved, so do get in touch with our fundraising team and together we will find the ideal opportunity to suit your skills and experience.”
