The atmospheric chapel at Haileybury College provided the backdrop when Isabel Hospice’s enchanting Carols in the Chapel event returned for the first time since 2019.
The festive family-friendly event back in mid-December was the perfect start to the holiday season, with some 160 people attending for a delightful evening of traditional carols and songs performed by the Wimbish Military Wives Choir.
Isabel Hospice Life President Barbara Doherty MBE said: “The chapel at Haileybury College is a marvellous setting for our Carols in the Chapel event; votive candles lit the windowsills and Christmas lights twinkled on the Christmas trees.
“One hundred and sixty guests braved one of the coldest nights of the year to join us, with snow covering the College grounds to add to the festive atmosphere. The choir performing was a group from the Wimbish Military Wives Choir, whose voices carried beautifully in the chapel as they sang a variety of Christmas songs and carols accompanied on the organ by Barbara Manning.
“The evening also featured poems and readings, and the MC was the marvellous Stuart Story.
“Refreshments were held in the grand dining hall after the concert, where in the warmth, guests enjoyed mulled wine, mince pies and sausage rolls.”
A raffle to win a large Christmas hamper stocked up with seasonal goodies raised £650, and the event made about £2,500 for the Hospice.
Barbara added: “Isabel Hospice wishes to thank the Haileybury events team and catering department for their ongoing help and support for this annual event.”
