Isabel Hospice ward clerk Julie Curtis and her toddler grandson Callum are putting their best foot forward by taking part in the Captain Tom 100 Challenge in aid of our charity.
Julie, who has worked on our In-Patient Unit for almost two years, and 22-month-old Callum have already smashed their £100 target to help fund our specialist, compassionate care for local families facing a life-limiting diagnosis.
Julie said: “I absolutely love my job but most of all, I love the people I work alongside and I love the care that our amazing team provides for those that so need us.
“This last year has been an absolute challenge for everyone at Isabel Hospice and we have all pulled together to keep caring. But we rely heavily on the generosity of the public for us to be able to continue to do so and sadly, that has taken a bit of a bashing with having to close our charity shops, and cancel our fundraising events.”
The Captain Tom 100 Challenge on Friday, April 30 has been inspired by the life and legacy of Captain Sir Tom Moore to celebrate what would have been his 101st birthday and the one-year anniversary of the conclusion of his famous 100 laps of his garden that raised an incredible £38.9million for the NHS.
Julie and Callum are planning to complete their 100 steps around Julie’s garden at home in Hoddesdon, or their local park. They will be wearing special t-shirts featuring the Hospice logo and #callumcan hashtag that have been kindly printed by Stanstead Abbotts-based BMG Industries Ltd.
“Callum has so much energy at this age that he shouldn’t have any problem completing the 100 steps on his little legs – it will probably be poor Nanny trying to keep up with him!” said Julie.
“If you can sponsor us, however small, we would be so grateful. I know as Callum grows up my little man will be so proud to have done something amazing.”
