Mamma mia! An ABBA party night in aid of Isabel Hospice has raised an incredible £25,000 for the end-of-life care charity.
The spectacular all-singing, all-dancing evening with the internationally acclaimed tribute act, Thank You for the Music, raised the roof with music and dancing at Tewin Bury Farm. The event was organised by the Hospice’s special events committee as part of a series of fundraisers to mark the charity’s 40th anniversary.
Isabel’s Life President Barbara Doherty MBE said: “The venue was transformed into a Greek taverna with gingham table cloths, walls clad with vines and blossoms, pillars hung with grapes – decorated by our great supporters, the Van Hage Garden Company – while the stage was decorated with blue trellis, vibrant bougainvillaea and small lanterns by set designer Matt Wyles.
“The silent auction featured 26 lots, including a week at a villa in Portugal, which raised £3,000, and a diamond pendant, which fetched £2,625.
“Our 180 guests enjoyed a three-course meal and danced and sang until midnight to the ABBA music. Myself and the special events committee wish to thank the generous sponsors of the event, Tewin Bury Farm, and all the guests who made the evening such a success.”
The ABBA party night was the second of four events that have been planned by the special events committee during Isabel’s 40th year. In April, staff and volunteers from the founding days of the charity were among 250 guests invited to a celebratory luncheon at Hatfield House, which was attended by local dignitaries including Hospice patrons Lord and Lady Salisbury.
The next event is an Evening with Amanda Owen – The Yorkshire Shepherdess in the Tythe Barn at Tewin Bury Farm on 15th September. The writer and TV personality will be sharing the challenges, rewards and realities of life on the farm during a frank, funny and informative talk detailing her remarkable farming and family life. It will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing.
Tickets are £35 (including wine and canapes) and can be purchased by emailing Suzanne Coleman at rdsjcoleman@gmail.com.
