Tonnes of Care donation days return this Spring - Isabel Hospice

Isabel Hospice is hosting a series of Spring donation days at venues across eastern Hertfordshire starting next week.

We are first teaming up with Bishop’s Stortford Rugby Club on Monday 6th March to help boost donations to our 16 shops and eBay store.

People are encouraged to bring along their good quality clothing, accessories, homewares, vintage items and collectables between 10am and 2pm. Future dates at the rugby club are planned for Wednesday 12th April and Wednesday 3rd May.

Monday’s event will be followed by donation days at Van Hage Garden Centre in Great Amwell on Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th March. Our volunteers will be on hand to receive donations between 10am and 2pm. If you can’t make it down on either of those days, then we will be back there again on 3rd and 4th April and 8th and 9th May.

Later in the month, our retail team will then be at The Dutch Marketplace in Brookmans Park on 20th March between 10am and 2pm. Future dates are planned for 17th April and 15th May.

Isabel Hospice relies on donations of preloved items from the public to help fund our specialist palliative and end-of-life care for those living across our catchment area.

Bishop’s Stortford Rugby Club, Van Hage and Dutch Marketplace are all regular supporters of the Hospice through our Tonnes of Care initiative. In recent months, they have collectively donated more than 3,500 bags of unwanted and unused items. This helped pay for 1,440 hours of patient care and saved more than 28 tonnes of waste being sent unnecessarily to landfill.

Our head of retail Charlotte Greenwood said: “Bishop’s Stortford Rugby Club, Van Hage and Dutch Marketplace have been great Tonnes of Care partners for us. We are so pleased they have all committed to a monthly donation day for us again this year as this will really help fulfil our pledge to save 25,000 tonnes from landfill by 2027.

“We ask the local community to really get behind these donation days and bring along their good quality clothing and accessories, homeware, small electricals and vintage items so everyone can play their part in turning unwanted items into nursing hours and promote sustainable shopping.”

In January, Tonnes of Care, which was launched by the Hospice on Earth Day 2022, scooped the Green Initiative Award at the Heart Hertfordshire Hero Awards 2023. The award recognises those whose environmental efforts are making a difference towards a greener future.
