Trustees Week - Meet Ian Ellis - Isabel Hospice

Continuing Trustees Week we asked Isabel Hospice Trustee, Ian Ellis, some questions on his role with us.  Our trustees are volunteers and are vital to our organisation. If you would like to be apart of our volunteer community. Please visit https://joinus.isabelhospice.org.uk/volunteer-with-us

  • Why did you become a trustee?

I became a trustee when I retired principally to give something back to my community and to an organisation that touches so many people at some of the hardest times in their lives. It has also enabled me to keep my brain sharp and active, mixing with many people from different backgrounds.

  • What do you like about being a trustee at Isabel Hospice?

Being a trustee of Isabel Hospice, I like it that I can utilise and pass on some of the business skills that I gained during my working life – in some cases, I have experiences that others within Isabel have not had, so I feel that I can add value. Furthermore, the nature of Isabel is a caring one, so it is good to work with people who principle motivation is the wellbeing of others.

Ian is a qualified accountant and spent the latter part of his working career as a member of the board of the Kwik Fit group. Ian’s wife Linda also volunteers for Isabel Hospice, twice a week at the Waltham Cross shop, and also on an ad-hoc basis in the warehouse and on events. They are fortunate to split their lives between the UK and Spain, where they also volunteer for a dogs charity!
