Area Manager

We are seeking an experienced Area Manager to oversee 16 shops, with responsibility for delivering annual income and contribution budgets. In this role, you will support and coach shop teams to ensure they consistently meet our high customer service standards.

Contract: Permanent | Full Time

Salary: £32,000

Location: Welwyn Garden City

You will oversee shop teams composed of both paid staff and volunteers, ensuring the professional development of each team member while managing resources efficiently. Your focus will be on building a flexible, high-performing team that thrives in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in data analysis is essential, as you will use it to make informed decisions and maximize the value of stock donations and new products.

This is a full-time, field-based role. While you will have an office base, the majority of your time will be spent traveling daily between shops. A valid driver’s licence is required, and occasional weekend work may be needed.

This position is ideal for an experienced Area Manager with a background in the charity sector, but we also welcome candidates from the retail industry with transferable skills.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support the Head of Retail and Deputy Head of Retail in the development and implementation of the Retail Strategy
  • Collaborate with the Trading Operations Manager to ensure shop operational issues are dealt with effectively
  • Provide coaching and support to shop managers to meet customer service standard targets and achieve KPI’s
  • Participate in staff and volunteer recruitment process as required
  • Prepare reports for, and attend Management Meetings
  • Serve as the weekend point of contact for staffing-related queries

Qualifications & Skills

  • Track record of successful commercial delivery in bricks and mortar retail environment
  • Proven ability in analysing data to drive trading performance
  • Retail experience in a variety of environments including managing a geographically dispersed team
  • Proven background in data reporting and KPI identification
  • Pragmatic problem solver in a constrained resource environment
  • Process driven, to successfully deliver change or enhancement
  • Sets an example as team leader, prepared to “muck in”, or “deep dive” as required
  • Excellent people skills and management experience
  • Valid driving licence and access to a car
