In a new green fundraising initiative, the first-ever Isabel Hospice Christmas Tree Recycling scheme has raised more than £15,000 for the charity in 2021 – thanks to local households and businesses in Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City.

Throughout December and January, local residents have been booking their trees in for collection and making a charitable donation to the Hospice.
Isabel Hospice would like to say a massive thank you to all of the volunteers who ploughed their time and energy into both collecting the trees and publicising the scheme, with special thanks to our corporate partners.
The mammoth task of collecting over 850 trees was undertaken by a community partnership of businesses donating their time, manpower, vehicles and equipment including:

- Cromer Hyde Farm
- Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council
With your help, we have raised enough money to provide over 600 hours of patient care – thank you!
Adam Brockett, Head of Community & Events Fundraising at Isabel Hospice, said: “What an incredible effort by our community! Thank you to everyone who took part in our first ever Christmas tree collection, a new scheme we hope to grow in future years. We are absolutely delighted that so many companies and individuals came together at such a tough time, to raise money for Isabel.
“It was a true team effort, with everyone working really hard and safely, making sure that we complied with Covid-19 rules and restrictions. Isabel is still here and still working throughout this pandemic, and we really do appreciate the support everyone has given to the Hospice.
“To everyone who placed an order to have their tree collected, thank you – your donations will directly support patient care at the Hospice In-Patient Unit and in people’s own homes.”
Welwyn Hatfield Council arranged for the Christmas trees to be collected and taken to Cromer Hyde Farm in Lemsford to be chipped and recycled back on local farmland.
Councillor Stephen Boulton, Executive Member Environment and Planning, said: “We were delighted to partner and support Isabel Hospice on this initiative the receipts from which will go to benefit some of our most vulnerable residents and their families. And of course a very special thank you to the people of Welwyn Hatfield for their kind and generous support.”
The continued support of our community and business partnerships is vital for Isabel Hospice to carry on providing its services.
As a charity, Isabel Hospice does not charge for its services, and a large proportion of its funding is thanks to incredible community aid, with fundraising events such as tree recycling, Gifts in Wills, the Isabel Hospice lottery and donations throughout the year.
