Football club proves it is a team with a big heart - Isabel Hospice

Cheshunt Football Club held their third annual Community Cup at their ground on Theobalds Lane in order to support local charity Isabel Hospice.

Their Chairman, Dean Williamson, said that community is at the heart of the club and that they were keen to reach out and help locally. The club motto is ‘One community. One club.’ and they put this into practice with their latest fundraising event.

The round-robin tournament pitted Cheshunt FC against another club based at the Theobalds Lane stadium, FC Romania, and Royston Town FC. Not only was all money raised from ticket sales donated, but the club also organised raffles and an auction to boost their total to an amazing £1100.

Mr Williamson said: “Our annual pre-season Community Cup tournament has been a huge success in funding projects and charities in our local community in recent years. This season we are delighted to support Isabel Hospice, with the money raised providing specialist palliative nursing care for those in our community who are living with serious long-term and life-limiting conditions.”

Linda Cudmore, community fundraiser for Isabel Hospice, was delighted with the kindness and generosity shown by the football club. She said: “I was very excited to hear that Cheshunt FC had raised an amazing £1100 to help our patients and their families. This amazing total could pay for over 40 hours of specialist nursing care, which will make such a difference to many people in our community. Alternatively, it could pay for 330 nutritional meals at our In-Patient Unit, ensuring our patients are having a well-balanced and tasty diet. I am looking forward to working with the club at future open tournament days.”

Although Cheshunt eventually lost out to Royston Town on the pitch, everyone involved in the club is thrilled to have been involved in another successful tournament and will be hoping for a win next year!
