ABOUT THE COURSE
Pain is one of the most common symptoms experienced by patients with serious or life-limiting conditions. This one-day course is for nurses or paramedics from any clinical background to develop an understanding of pain pathways and how to manage pain in palliative care to improve quality of life for patients. You will learn skills that can be applied in acute wards, community nursing, care homes and general nursing. This course compliments the “Core Symptom Management in Palliative Care: Essentials for Healthcare Professionals” course being held on 15th December 2026. Please see link to this course here.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

- Understand the key role and importance of a good assessment
- State the key principles of the management of pain in palliative care, wherever the patient is cared for
- Have an awareness of the common drugs used
- Acknowledge the role of adjuvants in managing pain
- Have an understanding of drug conversions when the oral route is not appropriate
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This course is aimed at Band 5/6 clinicians working in any healthcare setting who want to strengthen their pain assessment and management skills.
