Sophie Bacon, from Baldock has been so impressed with the care her dad, James Bacon has received from Isabel Hospice that she has raised an incredible £68,830 for Isabel Hospice since 2015.
Her most recent fundraising event was The Bacon Ball which was held at Tewin Bury Farm on April 14th. The ball has raised an incredible £18,325.
Sophie, a rural surveyor at Knight Frank said: “When my Dad was diagnosed with a melanoma in 2012 things were incredibly hard for us as a family. Dad continues to confound the medical teams as he fights on, and Isabel Hospice has made a massive difference to our family. As time passes our situation with Dad’s health has become increasingly more difficult and Isabel Hospice are always on hand to support – both on the phone and visiting at home. They look after us all, including my mum, myself, my brother. We only have to mention something once and they are on it with a genuine interest to help.
“The Ball was the fourth one I have organised for the Hospice. My favourite moment was the next day, when I had to count the money three times to make sure I hadn’t made a mistake and I knew that we had done a really great job.
“Unfortunately, this year my dad was not well enough to attend the evening and as a family it was a difficult for us, knowing that he has attended in past years and knowing that he would normally be the life and soul of the party, but it was incredible to see the support amongst the guests and sponsors and we are really pleased that the Hospice are able to benefit from this so much.
“Marlene Duke, on behalf of Isabel Hospice had done a short speech at the beginning of the evening, telling everyone about the Hospice services. That made a big difference. Thank you to everyone who helped me raise this incredible amount of money, for an incredible charity.”
Linda Cudmore, Community Fundraiser, said “We are bowled over by Sophie’s commitment to fundraising for the Hospice. Our nursing staff are there for families at the darkest times, supporting people medically, emotionally and spiritually. Every penny raised helps us to continue to care and we are grateful for this wonderful total, raised by this ball, as it could keep our whole Hospice service, including our In-Patient Unit, Hospice at Home and our community nursing team, running for a day and a half.”
